Women Impressionists and the Land
The first exhibition to focus on landscape and nature imagery in the work of the women Impressionists. Around seventy works by Berthe Morisot, Mary Cassatt, Marie Bracquemond and Blanche Hoschedé‑Monet explore the outdoor spaces these artists painted between 1860 and 1910. The exhibition travels to the Minneapolis Institute of Art in March 2027.

Théodore Rousseau and the Rise of the Modern Art Market
Bloomsbury Visual Arts
The nineteenth century in France witnessed the emergence of the structures of the modern art market that remain until this day. This book examines the relationship between the avant‑garde Barbizon landscape painter Théodore Rousseau (1812–1867) and the patrons, dealers and critics who shaped his career.

Curator and Head of the Department of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Saint Louis Art Museum.
My research focuses on avant‑garde nineteenth and early twentieth‑century French art. I am particularly interested in landscape imagery, especially that of Barbizon, Impressionist and Fauve painters. I have also published on German twentieth‑century painting and African American contemporary art. My methodology situates artists within the context of their wider cultural and socio‑economic markets.
After completing my undergraduate degree in the History of Art with first‑class honors at the University of Cambridge, I pursued my PhD at the University of Oxford as one of the final students of Professor Francis Haskell. I also worked closely with Dr. Jon Whiteley.
